Terrific Tuesday: wulfgirl!

Today's Terrific Tuesday features wulfgirl, an artist on Etsy. For starters, this gal's name is Virginia Wulf - which is very cool. Her day job is as an Interpreter for the Deaf- also cool! But the reason she's featured on The Cluttered Table is because she makes gorgeous jewelry!

Just check out some of her beautiful hand-made jewely:

These are the Smokey Brown Blown Glass on Vermeil Hoop Earrings. The detail on these earrings is remarkable and the color is so unique!

Above are the AAA Freshwater Pearl and Ruby Earrings. They are elegant and simple. I have a co-worker who would love them.

And last but not least we have the 20" Strand of Gorgeous Brown-Grey-Green Freshwater Pearls. I love oddly-colored jewely like chocolate diamonds and dark pearls. Gorgeous!

Her jewelry is well-made and crafted with quality stones and beads. Her prices are reasonable and can fit into any budget. Her shipping costs are reasonable and I will definitely be keeping an eye on her shop for a while. I'd highly recommend wandering on over to her shop on Etsy and looking around. These would make great gifts for Valentines Day or Mother's Day or Christmas or an anniversary.

Leave me a comment and let me know which piece of jewelry you like best!

Goodwill

We headed to Goodwill yesterday afternoon to roam around for a
while before going to church and these are my awesome finds:

Yes. It's real. Can you believe it? A Coach bag at Goodwill!
I only paid $3 for this bag. I was so pleased.

Steve Maddens - I'm so serious. Aren't they great?

I have always loved Goodwill.  You should see the piece of original art we found!
It's a print by Steve Armstrong and Clay Wainscott.
I'll post a photo of it as soon as I snap one. It's great.

Diesel: The Imaginary Dog

When Reeve first started working on the new house he was accompanied by the landlord's dog, Isabell. Soon after he started telling me about another dog that kept showing up. He called the dog Diesel.

While the house was being restored I would visit it every few days, but I would never see Diesel. Reeve would always say "Diesel was here just a little while ago" or "Diesel must be sleeping under the truck."
I started to wonder when I would see this dog.

When we moved in we spent the whole weekend on the property cleaning and painting and moving things in. I still didn't see Diesel.

We lived in the house for a week. We came and went. Still no Diesel. I started to accuse Reeve of making him up. He became Diesel, the imaginary dog.

Then, two nights ago we were putting boxes on the front porch and lo and behold! There he was! Diesel!
What a sweet dog he is! I grabbed my camera and snapped a few photos of the imaginary dog and this one was just too good to keep to myself.

Terrific Tuesday - paperlaundry!

My cousin-by-marriage, Stacy Leigh Hutchens has a fabulous blog. On her fabulous blog she has a fabulous feature called Feature Friday. I love this idea and I think I'm going to borrow it, but instead of Feature Friday I'm going to do Terrific Tuesday - because Tuesdays always need a little more sushine than other days. We haven't made it to the middle of the week yet and we are just starting to realize how far away the weekend is.

So for my first Terrific Tuesday I'd like to feature paperlaundry! My former coworker introduced me to her shop on Etsy a few months ago. I love to make and receive greeting cards, and these are top notch!

Check out this super cute card:

And this one:

And this one!

All her super-cute cards come with matching envelopes and are very reasonably priced - often less than you would pay for a mass-produced greeting card. She fills custom orders and she has an appreciation for the hand-made and the well-made - something we value at The Cluttered Table.

Give her shop a visit by clicking here and mention that you saw her featured on The Cluttered Table.

I LOVE the I'm Pulling for You card! What's your favorite card?

Easy Homemade Yeast Bread

Since the computer is still in  box somewhere (the rest of the office is set up - desk, monitor, cables - just no computer) I'm going to post one of my favorite recipes today, guaranteed to give you a very cluttered table!

I love bread. I love the smell of bread baking. I love pulling the soft inner from the crust. I love it warm with a little butter and a cup of herbal tea. I love the childhood memories it brings back - walking in my best friends front door and smelling fresh bread all the time. So one day not too long ago, I decided that I wanted to start making my own bread.

I love this bread recipe. It's flexible, it's easy and it makes the best bread! We love making bread - buttermilk oatmeal bread, banana bread, corn bread - we love it all - but this simple yeast bread is one of our absolute favorites. It takes about three hours to make, but most of that time is allowing the dough to rise.

I started making this bread as a constructive way to get out my frustration. It is a great way to diffuse stress - just make sure you don't over-knead or you will have hard bread!

So, without furthur ado, Homemade Yeast Bread!

Easy Homemade Bread
¾ Cup warm water
1 Package active dry yeast
1 ½ Tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
½ C Milk
1 Tbsp vegetable shortening, melted
1 Tbsp Molasses
1 Tbsp honey, warmed
3 Cups flour, divided. (I have made it with all wheat, but I prefer to use half wheat and half white)
Nuts, cinnamon sugar, chocolate chips or anything else you want in your bread (optional)

  • Combine warm water and yeast. Stir until yeast is dissolved.
  • Add sugar, salt, milk and melted shortening. Stir until well blended. Add honey and molasses (These are very important if you are using wheat flour. Nuts are also optional at this point.)
  •  Stir in 1 cup flour until well blended. Add second cup of flour. Stir until well blended.
  • Add flour 1/4 cup at a time until the dough chases spoon around the bowl. Turn dough out onto floured board. Add flour and knead gently until a soft, not sticky, dough is formed, (Do no over-knead or you will have hard bread!)
  • Butter a medium size bowl. Place dough in bowl, turn dough over so top is buttered. Cover with a dry towel and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour. (I put mine on top of the fridge.)
  • Punch down dough. Turn out onto floured board and knead gently, adding flour if necessary. (If making cinnamon swirl bread spread dough out flat and generously sprinkle cinnamon over bread. Don’t be afraid to use plenty of cinnamon! Roll dough – like a sleeping bag – to form a loaf and fold edges under)
  • Form dough into a loaf and place into a buttered loaf pan, cover with a dry towel. Preheat oven to 375 and let dough rise for 30 minutes.
  • Bake 40 minutes until loaf is golden brown. Cool in pan for at least 15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Slice and enjoy plain or with butter.

White Wash

Moving is a pain. We are slowly gaining ground in the unpacking process. The house looks like life-size tetris at the moment. So thankful for friends and family who have given countless hours to help us pack and unpack. Actually looking forward to unpacking tonight. The kitchen is starting to feel homey - despite the fact that there's no sink, no countertops and no microwave...last night we heated hot pockets in the toaster oven on the tile floor.

The computer is still in a box somewhere so the iPhone is the main photo and blogging source at the moment.

I'll post more photos once I start getting the kitchen in order and hanging/creating some art for it...

Until then,

Samantha
